  Last Season for Sideline "Fixture"

When the 20008 Sequoyah Football season ends and our seniors hang up their black and gold helmets for the last time, a long time fixture on the Sequoyah sideline will also be saying good bye. Fixture seems like the right word. He’s been on the Sequoyah sideline ever since there was Sequoyah High School football. He was there in 1990 when Coach Ronnie Jackson first fielded a Sequoyah Chiefs football team. He has been on the sidelines the last fifteen years as Coach Sid Maxwell became the winningest coach in Cherokee County history! And he was there when many of our current coaches wore a Sequoyah Chiefs player uniform. Win or lose, home or away Lt. Jim Harvey in his familiar tan and brown uniform of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has always been there. On the Sequoyah basketball court too!
Seasons, streaks, and records all eventually come to an end and so it is with Lt. Harvey. Not long after the 2008 football season ends, Lt. Harvey will be retiring from the Sheriff’s office and moving south for warm breezes and flip-flops.
“It’s my job” was his reply when I asked him why he worked the games, and he is all business when down on the field. But he was quick to add that he has continued to work our games because it has been “Fun!” He talked about all the places he’s been with the team, being on the sidelines during playoffs and even a visit to the Georgia Dome!
So who is Lt. Harvey pulling for during the game? Remember, he is working and unfortunately there are times where he has had to step in to keep things from getting out of hand. But, after nineteen years on the sideline watching our Sequoyah Chiefs you can bet there is a smile behind that usually stern expression when Sequoyah scores!
Best of luck in your retirement Lt. Harvey, we'll miss you!

GO CHIEFS!
